The transmasculine star is producing Nel Mio Nome, which follows a group of four trans men.

Elliot Page is executive producing an  Italian documentary titled Nel Mio Nome (“In My Name”) by Nicolò Bassetti, in which the director chronicles the transitions of four trans men, all friends.

Page was inspired to join the project because he was moved by the way it approaches the complexity of trans identity.

“What stands out to me about Nel Mio Nome is the way it so artfully and intentionally presents all the different pieces that make up a person’s identity,” Page told The Hollywood Reporter. “It’s a meditation on trans humanity, and I’ve never seen another film like it.”

While Bassetti isn’t a trans man himself, he does have a personal connection with the subject, as he explains the film was inspired by his son Matteo’s transition.

“My personal experience as a parent has allowed me, as a director, to find the necessary self-assurance to approach the protagonists of this story, to delve into their emotions, and establish an intimate relationship built on trust and complicity,” Bassetti explained. “I am truly grateful to Elliot for adding his lived perspective to help our film find its way in the world.”

“Knowing that Bassetti consulted closely with his trans son throughout production is so beautiful to me, and I think that lived experience and input is clear in the film’s perspective. I’m honored to be on board and can’t wait for everyone to see it,” added Page.

Nel Mio Nome marks the director’s second film, as he previously directed 2018’s Magnificent Fortunes. Page is also no stranger to nonfiction subjects; he starred in and executive produced the documentary series Gaycation in 2016, in addition to having directed and produced There’s Something in the Water in 2019.

Nel Mio Nome is currently set to premiere at the 2022 Berlin International Film Festival in February.
